Defined Contribution Plan or Consumer Driven Plans (DC)

Like the name implies, Defined Contribution plans are merely traditional group insurance plans with the employer paying a specified amount of the cost with the employee picking us the rest.  Instead of the employer paying a percent of the premium, it pays a fixed dollar amount with the employee paying the difference.  This usually is done with the employer offering more than one group plan option with different benefits and costs for the employees to pick from.  With the employer defining the amount of the cost it will contribute monthly, the employee is able to choose from a "cafeteria" of benefits to suite both the employee's budget, as well as, benefit needs.  This concept works well with the Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA).
